| In these lectures I will try to explain some developments during the last decade which reshaped the foundations of multiplicative structures in stable homotopy theory. After motivating the stable homotopy category, I will introduce the category of symmetric spectra along with its nice smash product pairing. This strictly associative and commutative smash product provides easy access to a homotopically flavored algebra over ring spectra, without the need to keep track of higher coherence homotopies. | The aim of these lectures is to give an introduction to topological Hochschild homology (THH) and a version of topological André-Quillen homology (TAQ) called Gamma-homology. After some algebraic preliminaries these fundamental objects will be presented. Then, algebraic models (using functor homology) computing THH and TAQ for Eilenberg-MacLane ring spectra will be presented. |
